Ron Paul is raising issues that other candidates are not willing to touch. I will write about one not because I use drugs but because I do not use drugs. I looked up the cost of the war on drugs since the 1970's. The cost is estimated to be over 1 trillion and possibly up to 2 trillion dollars. This accounts for about 10% of our national debt. I checked up on drug usage rates since this massive drug eradication was initiated. Marijuana and prescription drug use is up and cocaine use is down. Seizures are as is drug availability. I may not be the brightest bulb but I do know if I spent 1 trillion dollars and I still have the same situation I might want to try a different approach especially if I need to cut back my expenditures.

Ron Paul looks at drugs the same as alcohol which is a controlled drug. We tried alcohol prohibition in the 20's much like is the same situation with the drug war. Same situations just called a different name. Prohibition was rolled back and alcohol use was legalized. Now we collect over 6 billion dollars in tax revenues each year from the sale of alcohol. This money also funds citizen education regarding the effects of using alcohol. Why don't we apply the same approach to the use of marijuana? We can always make changes to the system or revert back to a state of prohibition. Marijuana is an atypical drug in the sense that it has agricultural value. I have a pair of hemp jeans purchased in Australia that are guaranteed to last for 25 years. Marijuana also produces oil that can be converted to a fuel. A NASA scientist discovered a way to convert marijuana oil or juice into a high octane gas. Marijuana is a better agricultural product for fuel than is corn. It is easy to grow and conversion is quite simple. It is estimated that marijuana could replace 50-75% of all fuel for autos. We have to start thinking outside of the proverbial box and Ron Paul is the only one brave enough to do that.
