WHAT IS AGAMA YOGA?
Agama Yoga is a unique international school offering it’s students a powerful introduction into true Integral Yoga. Based in the authentic, esoteric lineages of Indian and Tibetan Tantra Yoga, Agama provides an updated and upgraded self-development system whose theory includes comprehensive university-level teachings, combined with those of other sacred traditions from East and West (such as Taoism, Gnostic Christianity, Tibetan Buddhism, and Sufism). At the core of our teachings is the practice of an exceptional system of Kundalini-based Hatha Yoga and Laya Yoga, two of the most powerful elements of this age-old tradition. This is an approach nearly lost today which relies on energy awareness during Yoga practice to produce a highly accurate self-understanding of body, mind, and spirit..
Agama wishes to promote Yoga that resembles neither cheapened Hindu mysticism nor limited to fitness-oriented yoga postures. We are interested in a third option and humbly aspire to the pure and genuine Yoga discipline. Swami Vivekananda Saraswati, the founder of Agama Yoga International and Sahajananda (Claudiu), it’s co-leader and founder of it’s Advaita Vedanta Branch, Hridaya Yoga are two of a relatively small handfull of Yoga masters today trying to save this path from extinction. Under their leadership we are carrying out an extensive, five-year curriculum (offered in total only at the main branch in Koh Phan Gan, Thailand) that is both thoroughly spiritual and yet well adapted for the modern Westerner’s needs and ways of learning. For 2010/11, upto the first 3 months of this curiculum is offered at our branch in Mexico.
Practicing Yoga has effect on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels of your being. On the physical level Yoga can resolve injuries and diseases. It will make your body toned, strong, healthy and flexible. But Yoga is much more than this. Yoga hands you the tools for developing your inner world, so to become for example, a more, loving, more creative, or more confident person. It brings you closer to the secret forces of nature. Eventually, Yoga can make you a master of your own destiny and grant you knowledge of the Truth.
Our purpose is to offer support and clear, inspiring guidance to today’s spiritual aspirants and even those who wish to reach the highest metaphysical goal of Yoga and spirituality: Enlightenment or Self-Realization.
AGAMA YOGA MEXICO
Agama Yoga Mexico is the only branch in the Western Hemisphere offering the 24-day introductory First Level Intensive One Month Course year-round. The courses are being held primarily at El Neem (we have a 2nd center down the road for retreats/workshops), a retreat center which boasts a charmed palapa roof and semi-open Yoga hall along with a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean from an elevated vantage. Th location itself is backpacker secret, Mazunte and San Agustinillo in the cultural mecca of Oaxaca state and is located on the Pacific Coast of Southern Mexico, 60 minutes from the famed surfing competition town of Puerto Escondido and an hour from safe and easily accessible Huatulco Airport (HUX). We are also an hour walk from the 70s-made famous hippie town of Zipolite.
Agama Yoga Mexico is dedicated to offering the same quality teachings as are offered by founder Swami Vivekananda Saraswati at the Agama headquarters in Thailand, and is being led by a teaching staff who studied and trained directly under his guidance. It is our intention to keep the school running year-round and to offer classes in English with some Spanish translations. In addition, it is our long-term plan to also be able to emit the entire teaching in Spanish and we are periodically offering Yoga intensives in Spanish, 5 to 10 day meditation retreats and workshops of special themes including but not limited to Yoga and Sexuality, Non-Violent Communication, chanting and Vegeterianism. We encourage people also to join us at anytime for 1 week intensives of Agama Yoga appropriate for both beginners and practionners.
The Mexico branch which opened its doors in December 2008 through the initial efforts and commitment of Agama Yoga Teacher´s Maribel Gonzalez Tato of Spain/Mexico and Geoff Torkington of the United States is the beginning of a growing movement to bring this system and vision to the Americas and build in the next years an open community where people can come seasonally for up to several months of practice, study and spiritual maturity.
Finally, one of the primary purposes of this school is to make the teachings available to all and for this reason we have purposefully chosen a price which is one of the most affordable here in Mexico.
